🌿 April 27 – May 10 | Seasonal Sydney Produce

Hi all,

Autumn is really settling in now, and you can taste it in this fortnight’s box. The cooler nights have been doing wonderful things to the greens, and the root veg are getting sweeter by the week. I’m especially happy to have sugarloaf cabbage in the box, it’s just so versatile; great grilled on the BBQ, sliced into a slaw or roasted in the oven with spices on top. Tender, sweet, and so easy to cook with!

We’ve also got some lovely kipfler potatoes this week. They roast beautifully and make the best warm potato salads. The fennel is looking great too; sweet, crisp, and perfect shaved raw into salads or roasted alongside the carrots and beetroot.

Imperial mandarins are really starting to shine now, sweet, juicy, and full of flavour. And if you’re a plum lover, enjoy the ‘September Candy’ plums while they’re still around; we’re nearing the end of their run.

Here’s what’s in your box this fortnight:

A couple of recipe ideas:

Fennel, Rocket & Mandarin Salad

Shave fennel thinly and toss with wild rocket, mandarin segments, olive oil, and lemon.

Sugarloaf Cabbage Stir Fry

Sauté cabbage with baby bok choy, snow peas, garlic, and soy for a quick weeknight dish. Serve with steamed rice of toss through cooked noodles.

Roasted Kipfler & Beetroot Tray Bake

Roast kipflers, beetroot, and carrots with olive oil and salt until caramelised. Make a dill butter by mixing freshly chopped dill with some softened butter, a pinch of salt and pepper and some lemon zest. Serve in a bowl with dill butter on top

Eggplant & Cherry Tomato Pasta

Pan‑fry eggplant, add cherry truss tomatoes, garlic, and tarragon for a rich, simple sauce. Serve with your favourite pasta and grate some parmesan or ricotta salata on top.

A quick note on storage

-Leafy greens do best in an airtight container with a paper towel.

-Brussels sprouts and snow peas like a breathable bag in the veg drawer

-Mandarins can stay on the bench for flavour, or in the fridge if you want them to last longer.

-Dill and tarragon keep well wrapped in paper towel inside a container.

Hope you enjoy this fortnight’s selection.
